The Daily Mail reports that a deal has edged closer for Sean Longstaff to make the switch to Goodison Park.

Everton manager Rafa Benitez worked with the English midfielder during his time at Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old is out of contract next summer and it is believed the Magpies don't wish to lose the player on a free transfer.

The believed asking price is in the region of £10million.

The Athletic supports this report but claims a potential swap deal could be made instead.

However, the news organisation does not state which Everton player would be offered in return.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo believes Sporting Lisbon have finalised a deal to sign Joao Virginia.

The news website writes that the Everton goalkeeper will fly to Portugal to complete his medical.

The 21-year-old will reportedly join initially on a loan deal with an option to buy.
