Six Of The Best As Everton Beat Brighton

Everton Women recorded a resounding pre-season victory with a 6-1 triumph over Brighton at USM Finch Farm on Sunday.

Arguably the team’s best performance to date as they prepare for the new competitive season, goals came in from across the park.

The Blues started the game with a high press that did not stop until the final whistle.

The visitors did well to soak up pressure, but their efforts proved too tough a task as Everton found their breakthrough on 30 minutes.

Izzy Christiansen stepped up to take a free-kick on the right-hand side and whipped it into the box, where Megan Finnigan rose highest with a thundering header into the back of the net.

Five minutes later, the home side had their second as Nicoline Sørensen played the ball in from the corner flag and Toni Duggan applying the finishing touch low into the bottom right corner.

Sørensen continued her impressive pre-season form as she was on target for the third goal of the afternoon.

Kenza Dali’s flick on to the head of Duggan landed into the path of the Danish striker, who unleashed a powerful effort into the right-side of the net.

DALI AND EMSLIE REFLECT ON BRIGHTON WIN

Kenza Dali and Claire Emslie discuss an impressive performance as Everton beat Brighton 6-1.

Brighton weren’t going down without a fight, though, and Lee Geum-min pulled one back on the stroke of half-time, curling an effort past Courtney Brosnan from close-range.

Into the second half and Everton picked up from where they left off and netted their fourth, seconds after the referee’s whistle.

Grace Clinton did well to deal with pressure at the corner flag before playing the ball back to Duggan on the left flank.

The England international had excellent vision and spotted the run of Christiansen on the far-side and put the ball on a plate for the midfielder who tapped the ball into the far corner.

Claire Emslie then came off the bench to add Everton’s fifth.

Dali played the ball into the box and although Finnigan's header was blocked, Scotland striker Emslie was on hand to convert the rebound.

Five minutes later, Emslie had her second, slotting home at the near post after being released by a through-ball from summer signing Aurora Galli.

An impressive performance from Willie Kirk's side, who next up face a trip to Sheffield United on Wednesday evening.
