What The Papers Say - 31 July

The Liverpool Echo reports Burnley winger Dwight McNeil is Everton’s “prime target” in the summer transfer window.

The local read suggests the Club are keen to further bolster their options in wide attacking areas, having already signed Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray.

Just 21 years old, McNeil has already racked up more than a century of first-team appearances for the Clarets. He has also won 10 caps for England at Under-21 level.

The same newspaper claims Everton are not lining up a bid for Newcastle United forward Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Frenchman has been linked with a potential move to Goodison Park but Echo believes “he is not on the Club’s list”.

Brazilian media outlet Torcedores, meanwhile, speculates Everton are interested in signing Atletico Mineiro left-back Guilherme Arana.

Arana, 24, is part of the Brazil Olympic Games squad and has delivered a series of impressive performances in the tournament.

Arana is expected to be named in Brazil's starting XI – alongside Everton attacker Richarlison – when they take on Egypt in a quarter-final clash on Saturday.
