Rafael Benitez has announced additions to his technical staff, with Francisco de Miguel Moreno and Duncan Ferguson being appointed Assistant Managers.

Meanwhile, Antonio Gomez, a midfielder in Benitez’s Real Madrid youth teams, becomes the Club’s First Team Coach and Senior Analyst.

As confirmed on the day of Benitez’s appointment, Alan Kelly will remain First-Team Goalkeeping Coach.

De Miguel Moreno, known as 'Paco', is established as one of football’s foremost fitness experts. He obtained a degree in physical education in his homeland and formerly worked at Madrid’s National Institute of Physical Education.

The 48-year-old started in football with Atletico Madrid, then had time at Getafe and Valencia.

De Miguel Moreno joined Benitez’s Liverpool staff from 2007/08 and was subsequently with the manager at Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and Dalian Professional in China.

“Paco has been part of my success with different teams and is a key part of the staff,” Benitez told evertonfc.com.

“He is very knowledgeable and an exceptionally hard worker.

“Paco is informed on every aspect of modern training technology and how to apply this to maximise the output of every player and the team. 

“He has been my assistant for 14 years and will be very important in what we want to achieve with Everton.”

Gomez originally linked up with Benitez at Liverpool in 2009/10, reuniting with his old Real Madrid youth team boss.

He managed with Valladolid for a period in 2010 before two years in charge of fellow Spaniards Albacete.

Benitez hired the 47-year-old when he became Napoli manager in 2013 and Gomez remained with his countryman at Real Madrid, Newcastle and Dalian.

“Antonio is a former player with a lot of experience on the pitch as a coach and manager and player,” said Benitez.

“He will analyse opposing teams and study our players and is another who knows exactly how I want to do things.

“He was my player when he was 16 and has coached with me for more than eight years.

“He shares my ideas and ambitions and desire for success with Everton and is always working really hard on and off the pitch.”

Ferguson, who scored 72 goals in 273 appearances across two playing spells with Everton, had a stint in caretaker charge in 2019.

He has already been a prominent training ground voice in the initial weeks of Benitez’s reign.

And the manager insisted retaining Ferguson on his staff was a priority after taking over at Goodison.

“Duncan is an Everton legend and has great experience,” said Benitez.

“He will be vital for us with his coaching expertise and understanding of the players.

“His spirit, personality and character are invaluable.

“He knows the Club and people and what the Evertonians expect from their players

“He will be an inspiration for us and crucial with his insight on the Club.”
