The Liverpool Echo reflects on a night of heartache for England stars Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Gareth Southgate's side fell just short after a penalty shootout loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley. But the newspaper believes Blues boss Rafa Benitez can use this disappointment as motivation to kick on next season.

The new Everton manager will have to wait until he meets the pair in person as they take the next few weeks to rest before returning to USM Finch Farm.

The publication also analyses the Club's 3-0 practice match win over the weekend against Accrington Stanley.

Their reporter Adam Jones discusses the impressive performances of youngsters Tom Cannon, Lewis Gibson and Anthony Gordon who were all on the scoresheet.

The journalist also opens the question of the role Alex Iwobi could play as a number 10 as opposed to playing out wide.

“Playing centrally is something the 25-year-old seems to enjoy more than lining up on the flank," he wrote.

"It would certainly be intriguing if that’s the position Benitez can see him playing in the future.”

The Daily Mirror reports that the Blues could make a swoop for Newcastle United striker Allan Saint-Maximin should Richarlison depart this summer.

Their sources claim the 24-year-old is at the top of Benitez's list of replacements for Richarlison who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Everton reportedly are willing to pay up to £50million for the Frenchman but the Magpies are looking for £60million.
