Richarlison Helps 10-Man Brazil Reach Copa America Semis

Richarlison helped Brazil edge Chile 1-0 in a hard-fought Copa America quarter-final clash in Rio de Janeiro on Friday night.

The Everton attacker played 90 minutes for the five-time world champions, who had striker Gabriel Jesus sent off early in the second half.

Richarlison had threatened to open the scoring on 15 minutes but saw his strike well saved by Chile keeper Claudio Bravo.

Roberto Firmino and Neymar also went close for Brazil in the first half, while Chile’s Eduardo Vargas was foiled by a fine Ederson stop.

Lucas Paqueta’s clinical finish 46th-minute finish broke the deadlock but Brazil were rocked by Jesus’s red card just two minutes later.

Tite’s team came under pressure as Chile desperately hunted an equaliser and Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton saw a header cannon off the crossbar.

Brazil successfully held out, though, to book a semi-final meeting with Peru. The match will be a repeat of the 2019 Copa America final, in which Richarlison scored in a 3-1 Brazil triumph.
