Pickford On His England Display And Another Clean Sheet

Jordan Pickford reflected on another clean sheet after catching the eye as England shared a goalless draw with Scotland in the hugely-anticipated Euro 2020 Group D clash at Wembley on Friday night.

The hosts had Pickford to thank for following up their 1-0 victory over Croatia with a point against the Scots, the Everton keeper thwarting Stephen O'Donnell in the first half, getting down low to parry the right-back's goalbound volley with a fantastic save.

Pickford also impressed with his trademark distribution, producing arguably the pass of the match with an exquisite long-range ball to play in Raheem Sterling after the break.

Pickford said: "It’s a massive game and we want to take three points and win in every game we play but the biggest thing tonight is if we can’t win it, don’t get beat. The resilience of keeping a clean sheet from the lads meant we did that.

"We’ve got four points, we’re still in control of the group and we’ll get ready for the Czech Republic now.

"I thought I produced a good performance. I made one good save and commanded a few crosses. They put a lot of pressure on us but it was just about being in that moment as a goalkeeper and helping my teammates out and I felt I did that tonight. It’s another clean sheet which I’m pleased with."

England's best chance came early on when former Everton defender John Stones thundered a close-range header against the upright after being left unmarked from a corner.

Blues striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was an unused substitute for England who now have four points from their opening two matches, and know a draw against the Czech Republic on Tuesday will be enough to progress to the last 16 of the tournament.
