Everton Under-23s Star Welch On Inspirations, Oasis And Cherished Moments

Learn more about Everton Under-18s centre-back Reece Welch as he answers a mixed bag of fans’ questions….

Favourite city?

I haven’t had a chance to go yet, but Miami looks amazing when you see it in films. From the cities I’ve visited, London is probably my favourite.

Football hero?

Ronaldinho. I used to be a striker back in the day. I was never as technical as him, but I tried to give it a go!

Favourite sportsperson?

Michael Jordan. I watched The Last Dance and his work ethic and winning mentality were incredible.

Favourite food?

It’s a Caribbean dish. Brown stew chicken, rice and peas, with a fried bread called festival on the side. I love it.

Nickname?

People just call me by my last name! I don’t know how it started, but everywhere I go my friends are just like, ‘Welch, Welch, Welch!’.

Initiation song?

I did Wonderwall by Oasis. It went quite well! It was quite nerve-wracking when I first went up to sing but, once everyone started getting involved, it was a lot better.

Best player you’ve faced?

At my age group, Liam Delap was very good when we played Man City in the FA Youth Cup. Also, when I’ve been away with England at youth level, Jude Bellingham has been there and he’s a great player. But the best I’ve ever faced would have to be James Rodriguez in training at Everton.

Food you hate?

Spinach. I can’t eat that at all!

Best thing about being at Everton?

The togetherness here. Everyone looks out for each other and there is a such a great morale at the Club.
