Bred A Blue: Bolton Promotion Hero Gethin Jones On His Vital Everton Grounding

The latest guest on our Bred A Blue mini-podcast series is Bolton Wanderers defender Gethin Jones.

Jones joined Everton Academy at the age of 12 after being spotted playing for Wrexham.

He worked his way through the ranks and eventually made a First-Team appearance. He was 19 years of age when he came off the bench to replace Tyias Browning in a Europa League tie at Goodison Park against Russian outfit FC Krasnodar in December 2014.

Jones continued to be a regular in the Under-23s and after loan spells with Plymouth Argyle and Barnsley, he joined Fleetwood Town on a permanent basis in 2018.

Despite being born in Perth, Western Australia, Jones remains hopeful of breaking into the Welsh international squad, having spent most of his formative years in north Wales.

In 2020/21 he was a pivotal part of the Bolton side that earned an incredible promotion to League One, putting together a terrific run of results in the second half of the campaign to finish third in the League Two table.
