Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are both in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for this summer’s European Championship.

Pickford will compete in his second major international competition after a pivotal role in England's run to the semi-finals of the 2018 Russian World Cup.

He has 30 caps following a senior debut in November 2017, five months after joining Everton from Sunderland in a record transfer for a British goalkeeper.

Striker Calvert-Lewin marked his first England appearance with a goal in a friendly victory over Wales back in October.

The 24-year-old, who scored 21 goals for Everton in 2020/21, has won seven caps and netted four times for his national side.

There is no place in the squad for defender Ben Godfrey, who was included in the original 33-strong group following a fabulous first Everton campaign.

He is on Southgate's standby list and will remain with the Three Lions for a friendly meeting with Austria on Wednesday,

England begin their bid for a first European Championship title when Croatia visit Wembley for a Group D game on Sunday 13 June.

Southgate’s side face Scotland at Wembley five days later on Friday 18 June and finish the opening stage against Czech Republic at the national stadium on Tuesday 22 June.

England start their preparations for the tournament against Austria at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium this week.

They host Romania at the same venue on Sunday 6 June.

Pickford has 13 clean sheets for his country and was on the pitch for every minute of the World Cup campaign three years ago.

The 27-year-old, who has made 162 Everton appearances, finished the recent campaign in splendid form, recording four shutouts in the closing eight games.

Calvert-Lewin claimed both Players’ Player and Player of the Season prizes at Everton’s end of season awards to cap a fine personal campaign.

He is set for a first senior major tournament after a decisive contribution to England’s Under-20 World Cup triumph in 2017 and figuring at the Under-21 European Championship two years later.

The top two teams from six groups at the impending European Championship – moved back from 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic – in addition to four best third-placed teams, advance to the last-16, which begins on 26 June.
