Everton Pair Receive England Under-19 Calls

Everton pair Thierry Small and Reece Welch are included in an England Under-19 squad that will gather for a five-day St George’s Park training camp this month.

Defender Small became Everton’s youngest player when, aged 16 years and 176 days, he came off the bench in January’s FA Cup fourth-round victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Small was a regular for David Unsworth’s Under-23 team in the second half of the campaign, starting 12 games and scoring three goals.

Centre-half Welch has represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 levels and featured in manager Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton matchday squad for last month’s games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

Manager Ian Foster is assembling his England Under-19 squad on Sunday to begin preparations for the qualification stages for the 2022 Under-19 European Championship in Slovakia.

This summer’s edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

England Under-19s, who play group hosts Sweden, Switzerland and Andorra in October in the first qualifying round for next year’s tournament, will remain at the national football centre until Thursday.
