What The Papers Say – 4 May

The Athletic reckons Everton are poised to move for Brentford centre-forward Ivan Toney.

Toney, 25, is the first player to score 30 goals in a Championship season since Glenn Murray in 2012/13 following a transfer from Peterborough United back in August.

It is said Everton will seek a deal for Toney “once the striker’s season has ended”, with Brentford’s position in the promotion play-offs confirmed.

Everton’s main competition for Toney will, apparently, come in the form of an offer from Leicester City.

Hwang Hee-chan, the South Korean forward, was another supposedly on Everton’s radar.

Kicker magazine in Germany, however, pours cold water on the prospect of Hwang exiting RB Leipzig, with the player’s former RB Salzburg boss Jesse Marsch lined up to replace outgoing Julian Nagelsmann at the Red Bull Arena.

Norwich City defender Max Aarons has long been tipped for a transfer to Goodison Park and Football Insider claims the 21-year-old has a “gentleman’s agreement” with his club to leave this summer.

That arrangement is conditional on Norwich receiving a bid of £30m and it is suggested Tottenham Hotspur are the first club to show their hand with a bid being readied.

Norway Today reports that Joshua King will launch his eponymous football academy in Oslo next month.

The project was put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic but is ready to welcome school-age children in June.

“I am really excited. I remember when I was young… it cost a lot of money to attend a football school,” said King.

“Therefore, I thought it would be fun to get something that is free, where the kids can just enjoy it, have fun, and be trained by high-level coaches.

“We have achieved this and we have received only positive responses from sponsors, coaches, and people who want to contribute,”

Journalist Nicolo Schira says Everton want €45-50m for Moise Kean and the striker’s agent Mino Raiola is reportedly in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a transfer for his client.

Italian Kean is on loan in the French capital and, according to Schira, “happy in Paris”.

Raiola is supposedly discussing terms of a five-year-contract with PSG sporting director Leonardo.
