Everton Midfielder Christiansen In Frame For Illustrious Individual Honour

Izzy Christiansen is in the running to be named Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Season after the Everton midfielder was included on a six-strong shortlist for the prize.

England international Christiansen is a key figure for manager Willie Kirk’s rapidly evolving Everton, who have secured a top-five WSL finish for the first time since 2013.

The 29-year-old has six league goals this term, including two in her past three games, in addition to five assists.

Christiansen, a 2020/21 WSL ever-present, joined from European champions Lyon in December 2019.

In February this year she signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract to stay at Everton, the club where she began her career, until at least June 2023.

Christiansen already owns one major individual honour after claiming PFA Women’s Player's Player of the Year for 2015/16.

She is vying for this season’s WSL award with former Everton striker Chloe Kelly, who has enjoyed a productive debut campaign at Manchester City, and the prolific Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema.

The shortlist is completed by Sam Mewis, the American 2019 World Cup winner from Manchester City, and the Chelsea pair of Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr.
