Kirk on the team news for Sunday’s game…

Dan Turner is the only one out. We think that will be her out for the rest of the season. Valerie Gauvin trained on Tuesday and Wednesday on her own and will join in with the rest of the team today. We’re hoping she will be on the bench.

On the test Villa will provide…

I was really impressed with their summer recruitment and they have got a good squad. They have changed the way they play since Marcus Bignot came in [as interim manager].

The quality of chances they get has decreased – but the quality of chances they are allowing has dramatically decreased. They have got a very strong press from the front. We’ve analysed it a lot and we feel it’s one of the best in the league, in terms of numbers and aggression. That will be a challenge for us to play through.

HIGHLIGHTS: RASO HITS PERFECT HAT-TRICK AS EVERTON THUMP ALBION

All the goals from the Blues' 5-0 WSL victory at Brighton.

On playing against a team in a relegation battle…

Our players cannot underestimate the challenge they will face. Villa are scrapping to stay in the WSL. I asked our squad to put themselves in Villa’s shoes – about how much their players want to be part of this league next season, with the new broadcast deal and everything that will bring. We need to match those characteristics – their fight, grit and desperation to win.

We want to accumulate more points, starting on Sunday. We’re fifth in the table and we’ve got to see how close we can get to fourth.

On Hayley Raso’s perfect hat-trick at Brighton and the goal threat posed by the Blues’ wide forwards…

Hayley’s goals were all different last week. It really showed all her attributes – she’s exciting, direct and aggressive, and her goals typified those three things.

I think all our wide players have chipped in with goals, but they could also point to chances this season where they could have done better. They could all be sitting on seven or eight goals, rather than three, four or five. They are all working on their finishing every single day – and on different types of finishes, too.

On Simone Magill’s impressive form and her wide range of technical and mental attributes…

Simone has some really high moments this season for club and country. She chips in with very important goals. She has had some difficulties with niggling injuries and competing with the forwards we’ve got at the Club.

But the first thing that stands out with Si is her hard work on the pitch. If you were in the trenches, you would choose Si to take with you. She works so hard. She is brave and determined.

She can vary her game, she can drop into pockets of space or run in behind. She can also play a number of roles. She’s primarily played in a number nine role, but she can play as a 10 or in a wide area.

She brings a lot of qualities on the pitch and, off the field, she is such a bubbly character – she gets on with everyone and you’ll never find someone who has a bad word to say about Simone. She is a great person.
