Bred A Blue: Mark Hughes On What He Owes To Everton

Our latest Bred A Blue interview is with Mark Hughes.

Hughes, currently on the books of Accrington Stanley, came through the ranks at Everton after joining the Academy at the age of nine.

He made his second team debut at 16 - memorably against Dion Dublin - and played three times for the first team under David Moyes, twice in the League Cup and a late substitute appearance in the Premier League.

With his path blocked by the likes of Phil Jagielka, David Weir, Alan Stubbs and Joseph Yobo, Hughes left his beloved Blues in 2006 to join Northampton Town.

After the Cobblers he played for Walsall, Australia's North Queensland Fury, Bury, Morecambe and Stevenage, and is now part of an Accrington team pushing for an unlikely promotion to the Championship.

In Bred A Blue, Hughes recalls his Everton days, including travelling with the First Team to Villarreal and Dinamo Bucharest, and explains why he believes his Everton Academy days set him up for life.
