Carlo Ancelotti says he is hopeful Tom Davies will be fit to face Chelsea on Monday (6pm) but added James Rodriguez may not be available for the Stamford Bridge clash.

The pair missed the Blues’ successive 1-0 victories over Southampton and West Bromwich Albion last week with minor knocks.

Seamus Coleman and Robin Olsen were also sidelined for those matches but no update was provided on their availability for Monday’s game.

“I hope Tom can recover soon and that he will be available against Chelsea,” said Ancelotti, who was speaking at his pre-match press conference.

“With James, I don’t know. I think we have to check.

“I think maybe he is not ready for the game against Chelsea. 

“But for the next game against Burnley, yes [he could be available].”

Yerry Mina has missed Everton’s past three matches with a calf problem, while a tendon issue meant Fabian Delph was unable to feature in the wins over Southampton and West Brom. 

Jean-Philippe Gbamin is continuing his rehabilitation from an Achilles injury.

Allan made his injury comeback against the Saints last Monday – playing the full match after a layoff of more than two months. He was then introduced as a 58th-minute substitute in the win at The Hawthorns and Ancelotti confirmed the Brazilian was named on the bench as a precaution.

“The plan was to rest him,” said the Everton boss. “Allan didn’t play for two months and to give him two matches in three days was too much. 

“For Gylfi Sigurdsson [who also came on as a substitute at West Brom], it was exactly the same. He needs time to recover and I wanted to give him a little bit of rest.”

Richarlison’s strike at West Brom was his fifth in as many games for Everton.

The Brazilian has scored 12 times in all competitions for the Blues this season, while fellow attacker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has hit 18 goals this term.

Ancelotti says he is a “lucky man” to have such talented all-round forwards at his disposal and believes the 23-year-old duo boast limitless potential.

“We have two fantastic strikers,” he said.

“Above all for the age they are – they are really young and they can improve. 

“They combine well together and have different characteristics. It is not easy to find two kind of strikers like these and I am really pleased to be their manager. 

“They have everything – they are strong, they are fast, they are good without the ball. They have it all in their hands, because they are modern strikers.

“We couldn’t ask for more, honestly. I am a lucky man!”

Victory at Chelsea on Monday would see Everton leapfrog Thomas Tuchel’s team and move into the Champions League qualification places. Ancelotti urged his team to show they have the belief to achieve a top-four finish.

“I think it will be important [to display] the desire we have all together to fight for that position – the ambition that we are able to stay at a high level. That can be the key point.

“Of course, to keep this [high level] you must have sacrifice, good performances and results.”
