Scott Hits Winner As Everton Edge Five-Goal Thriller At Spurs

Jill Scott grabbed her first Everton goal since returning to the Club on loan as the midfielder’s winner saw the Blues edge an exciting 3-2 WSL win at Tottenham Hotspur.

Willie Kirk’s side raced into a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes as Valerie Gauvin scored two penalties after handball by Ria Percival and a foul by Abbie McManus.

But the hosts fought back either side of the break at Barnet’s The Hive Stadium, Angela Addison finishing neatly after a nice through-ball before Gemma Davison equalised with a half-volley.

Scott was to have the final say, though, with the 34-year-old – on loan from Manchester City – heading in a corner from close range just after the hour mark to seal Everton’s victory.

The winning goal rounded off a memorable few days for Scott, who played for Everton from 2006 to 2013 before joining City, after she earned her 150th England cap on Tuesday in the Lionesses’ 6-0 success over Northern Ireland.

There was a further boost for the Blues after defender Gabby George came on at the start of the second half to play her first competitive match since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in February last year.

Everton could have had the game won midway through the first half when Gauvin headed onto the roof of the net with a chance for 3-0.

After Spurs' comeback, the Blues reasserted their control on the game as Izzy Christiansen hit the side-netting and Hayley Raso produced a good save from Aurora Mikalsen.

The three points sees Kirk’s side consolidate fifth place in the WSL, with the Blues now sitting three points ahead of Reading in sixth, with a game in hand.

Everton are back in WSL action next Sunday with a testing clash at Manchester City (2pm).
