Midfielder Rhys Hughes has been rewarded for his impressive form for Everton Under-23s by being nominated for January's Premier League 2 Player of the Month.
The 19-year-old, who has represented Wales at youth level, is in the running for the prize alongside Arsenal's Folarin Balogun, Louie Barry of Aston Villa, Reading's Ethan Bristow, Spurs' Kion Etete, Joe Hugill of Manchester United and Leicester City's Jacob Wakeling.
Hughes netted in Everton Under-23s' 1-1 Merseyside derby draw on 18 January and, a week later, started in the young Blues' 4-2 victory at Leicester City.
The shortlist was chosen by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel, after Premier League 2 club coaches picked out the best performance by an opposing player in each of their league matches in the month. The panel will also select the winner.
