Everton To Mark World Holocaust Day

Everton will mark World Holocaust Day 2021 with a big-screen tribute at Goodison Park ahead of Wednesday night's Premier League fixture against Leicester City, with the message of commemoration also displayed across the Club's social media channels.

World Holocaust Day remembers the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi Persecution and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Today’s date, 27 January, marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 is ‘Be the light in the darkness’. It encourages everyone to reflect on the depths humanity can sink to, but also the ways individuals and communities resisted that darkness to ‘be the light’ before, during and after genocide.

Everton's tribute will be displayed at 8pm, when households across the UK will be lighting candles and putting them in their windows to remember those who were killed – and highlight the fight against all prejudice and hatred today.

You can watch the Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 ceremony, taking place online from 7-8pm, by registering here.
