Thursday’s Liverpool Echo features quotes from one of James Rodriguez’s former managers, Claudio Ranieri, who has backed the Colombian to achieve “incredible things” at Everton under Carlo Ancelotti.

Ranieri managed James for one season after signing him at Monaco in the summer of 2013.

In an interview originally given to evertonfc.com, Ranieri said: “James has a strong connection with Carlo, who got the best out of him at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and it is going brilliantly for them this season.

“It is hard to make predictions but this duo has achieved incredible things in the past and there’s no reason to think they can’t do so again with the Toffees.”

Inside Futbol claims Everton is “the most likely” destination for Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee, should he leave the German champions during the January transfer window.

Bundesliga side FC Köln have also been linked with the 19-year-old but are reported to have “cooled their interest”, with Everton rumoured to be continuing talks with Bayern over a potential deal.

Everton Under-23s striker Ellis Simms, meanwhile, has revealed his hunger to “step up and show what I can do” after completing a loan move to League One side Blackpool on Wednesday.

Quotes from the talented frontman are included in the Blackpool Gazette, with Simms adding: “This is the next step for me in my career to get men’s football and playing for points, so I’m sure this will be good for me to test myself against good opposition and hopefully I can do well.”

And BBC Sport reports on Spain international midfielder Damaris Egurrola’s move from Everton Women to European champions Lyon for a six-figure sum.

Everton Sporting and Commercial Director Sarvar Ismailov explained: “It is important we make it clear that the only reason we are letting Damaris go is because we want her to fulfil her dream.

“We turned down three previous offers from Lyon but, ultimately, I couldn't take that opportunity away from Damaris and her family."
