Everton Under-23s got off to a flying start when midfielder Rhys Hughes applied the finishing touch to what assistant manager John Ebbrell later called "a fantastic team goal”. 

However, Tyler Morton replied for Liverpool midway through the first half and neither team were able to land a decisive blow after the break. 

The result leaves Everton seventh in the Premier League 2 table, six points behind leaders Chelsea at the midway point of the campaign.

David Unsworth's side next face Leicester City away on Monday 25 January (7m GMT).
