Everton Boss Provides Team News Update

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed Everton attacker James Rodriguez will miss Saturday’s clash with Chelsea at Goodison Park (8pm GMT) after sustaining a knock in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Burnley.

The Colombian has been unable to train this week at USM Finch Farm and Ancelotti says his fitness will be assessed ahead of Wednesday's game at Leicester City,

The Italian added captain Seamus Coleman is nearing a First Team return but will not be ready for the Chelsea match.

The Everton boss says he expects the Irishman to be fit to face Leicester in midweek, however.

Coleman has not featured for Everton since last month’s game against Manchester United.

Fabian Delph will also miss Saturday’s contest having suffered a hamstring injury midway through the first half at Turf Moor last weekend.

Lucas Digne remains out with an ankle ligament problem, while Jean-Philippe Gbamin is continuing his rehabilitation from an Achilles injury.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Ancelotti said: “Seamus Coleman started this week to train with the team, which was good.

“I think he will be available for the next game, against Leicester on Wednesday.

“Fabian Delph is out with the injury he suffered in last week’s match.

“James had a little problem during the game against Burnley.

“He had a problem with his calf and was not able to train this week. It is nothing special.

“I think he will start to train next week – but for this game [against Chelsea] I don’t want to take a risk.

“We have to look at him after Saturday’s game to see if he will be available to train and then play against Leicester.”

While admitting James' absence is a blow, Ancelotti declared his confidence Everton boast the depth in quality to achieve a positive result against Chelsea without the former Real Madrid player's influence.

“James is a fantastic player for us," he said.

"But we will be able to adapt to the fact he is not going to play.

“We have a good squad, and maybe we are going to play a little bit differently.”
