Confident Christiansen Eager To Continue Making Evertonians Proud

Izzy Christiansen has set out Everton’s goal to “continue making our fans proud” as the Blues prepare for a mouth-watering return to WSL action against Manchester City on Sunday (2.30pm GMT).

Everton will lock horns with City at Walton Hall Park in a repeat of last month’s FA Cup final showdown at Wembley.

Willie Kirk’s team were edged out after extra-time on that occasion but Christiansen says confidence is high the Blues can triumph on Sunday.

Everton are fourth in the league table, two points and one place ahead of City.

The match will be the Blues’ first since Christiansen struck the winner in a 1-0 Merseyside derby victory on 18 November.

“We’re looking forward to playing City again,” Christiansen told evertonfc.com.

“We’re above them in the league and I think the pressure will be on them.

“I’m looking forward to them coming over to our place and hopefully we can make the improvements we need to from the last few performances.

“The derby win was massive.

“Willie said after the game, ‘We made a lot of Evertonians happy because it is one over on our rivals’.

“Now we want to make sure we can get a result against Manchester City and keep making our fans proud of us.”

HIGHLIGHTS: EVERTON WOMEN 1-0 LIVERPOOL FC WOMEN

Watch the best of the action from the Continental Cup clash at Walton Hall Park.

Midfielder Christiansen has been instrumental in Everton’s fine start to the 2020/21 campaign.

Her tireless work-rate and incisive, accurate passing have helped set the tone for a series of dynamic Everton performances.

Christiansen’s eye for goal has also been apparent – her strike against Liverpool last time out was her third of the season, having also got on the scoresheet against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 29-year-old says Everton has provided an ideal platform for her to shine – “we have incredible togetherness and I’m so happy to be part of this club” – and outlined the importance of the Club’s enthusiastic and growing support.

“I think our start to the season turned heads and that helps,” she said.

“Everton have a team competing in the top-flight and competing at the top end of the table in the WSL.

“We can feel the support coming through social media and it means a lot.

“We want to stay there and in order to do that, we need to keep making our supporters proud.

“It’s a great club to be part of in terms of the support.”
