In-Form Calvert-Lewin Reveals Everton Target

Premier League top goalscorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin says Everton “must build from here” and strive to replicate their impressive early-season form after a hard-fought 3-2 victory at Fulham on Sunday.

The striker netted a double in the win at Craven Cottage – he has now hit 13 goals for the Blues this season.

All Everton’s goals came during a slick first-half display from Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with Abdoulaye Doucoure also on target for his maiden Toffees strike.

Everton went into the interval 3-1 ahead, Bobby Decordova-Reid having equalised Calvert-Lewin’s opener.

Fulham applied pressure in the second half and narrowed the deficit through substitute Ruben Loftus-Cheek but Everton saw out an important victory.

Calvert-Lewin identified elements of the Blues’ display which must be improved but believes the win can be a catalyst for another positive series of results.

“I know it’s a cliché, but the most important thing today was getting the three points,” he said.

“In the second half, I don’t think we played very well.

“In the first half, we did well to get the lead and we should have continued that [level of performance].

DOUCOURE SAVOURS MAIDEN BLUES GOAL

Midfielder stresses importance of Everton's 3-2 victory at Fulham.

“On another day, perhaps we would have got punished for not playing well enough in the second half.

“But the most important thing was to get back to winning ways, and we build from here.

“We have to kick on and make sure we’re better next week [against Leeds United].”

Calvert-Lewin got Everton off to a lightning-quick start at Craven Cottage, applying the finishing touch after a superb run and low cross from Richarlison inside the first minute.

His second goal of the afternoon came when he slotted home after a devastating attacking move involving Alex Iwobi, James Rodriguez and Lucas Digne.

Calvert-Lewin’s double means he is now out on his own as the Premier League’s top scorer with 10 goals, one ahead of Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Hueng-Min.

The 23-year-old operated as the focal point of a 3-4-3 formation in the clash at Fulham, and the striker explained why he enjoyed the role.

“I think the first half was a representation of me benefitting from the new system, where I was getting chances from wide areas, with crosses coming in,” he said.

“That’s what I like, to be in the right areas at the right times.

“In the second half it was more about digging in. We did that and got the win.”
