Iwobi Hits Double In Thrilling Nigeria Draw

Alex Iwobi scored twice - including a 25-yard cracker - as Nigeria maintained their unbeaten start in Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying but let slip a dominant lead in a 4-4 draw with Sierra Leone in Benin City.

The Everton forward opened the scoring with just five minutes on the clock and, after Napoli's Victor Osimhen doubled the Super Eagles' advantage, Iwobi made it three just before the half-hour mark with the goal of the game.

Picking up the ball 25 yards from Sierra Leone's goal, the 24-year-old unleashed a sweet first-time strike that sailed into the top left-hand corner. Nigeria looked to be cruising to victory with a further goal from Villarreal's Samuel Chukwueze. But Sierra Leone reduced the deficit just before the break and stormed back in the second half to take a share of the spoils with an 86th-minute leveller.

Nigeria remain top of Group L qualifying with seven points from their three matches so far and take on Sierra Leone again on Tuesday for the reverse fixture in Freetown.

Meanwhile, James Rodriguez and Yerry Mina both started as Colombia suffered their first defeat in South American World Cup qualifying, going down 3-0 at home to Uruguay.

A Edinson Cavani goal, Luis Suarez penalty and Darwin Nunez strike secured victory for Uruguay, before Mina was sent off in the final minute for a second yellow card.

Colombia have four points from their three games ahead of a trip to Ecuador on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Nathan Broadhead scored from the spot in Wales Under-21s' 3-0 victory over Moldova Under-21s in their European Championship qualifier.

The Everton Under-23s forward kept his cool to slot home with 13 minutes remaining in Wrexham.
