What The Papers Say - 12 November

Thursday’s edition of the Liverpool Echo carries quotes from former Everton goalkeeper Nigel Martyn, who has outlined why Richarlison's availability after the international break will give the Blues a significant boost.

The Brazilian attacker has completed a three-match ban and is in line to make his Everton return against Fulham on Saturday 21 November.

“He brings quality and energy,” said Martyn, in an interview originally given to HITC.

“And he’s a goal threat. You need players who will get stuck in as well and he does that.”

French publication L’Equipe, meanwhile, claims Everton made a bid for Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma during the summer transfer window.

Zouma spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Goodison Park. Tottenham Hotspur are also rumoured to have been keen on signing the defender.

And the official Premier League website reports on how Everton has thrown its weight behind the city of Liverpool’s mass COVID-19 testing programme.

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is quoted, with the Italian stating: “I would urge everyone living and working in Liverpool to register and be tested.

“Taking a test is very simple, in our football bubble we are tested every week, which has allowed football to continue in England.

“Hopefully now rapid mass testing is available to everyone in Liverpool, it will mean we can control the virus better, help the city get out of tier 3 restrictions once the lockdown ends and eventually allow us to celebrate Christmas with our loved ones.”
