WATCH: Bayern Munich Great Remembers 'Special' Goodison Night

Soren Lerby was a prominent member of the acclaimed mid-1980s Denmark national team, christened Danish Dynamite following their march to the 1984 European Championship semi-final and a handful of mesmerising performances at the World Cup in Mexico two years later.

Midfielder Lerby was elegant on the ball and took no prisoners off it.

He spent three years with Bayern Munich after joining in 1983 and was a key figure in the team which came to Goodison Park for a European Cup Winners' Cup semi-final second leg in April 1985.

In an exclusive interview with evertontv, Lerby reveals how he discovered on a subsequent visit to Goodison the place that game 35 years ago has in Evertonians' hearts.

The former Ajax player reveals how the fiery Peter Reid reacted to a naughty Lerby tackle, which had the Dane erroneously concluding, '‘I have him… he’s finished’.

Lerby, who would win the European Cup with PSV Eindhoven in 1988, insists Bayern came to Merseyside with no fear but lauds the Goodison crowd for creating a "special atmosphere" and "staying behind their team like a rock" – a trait he says the Club's supporters remain renowned for today.

Bayern led 1-0 at half-time but, recalls Lerby, after Graeme Sharp's 48th-minute equaliser "Everton started to fly".

"That Everton team could beat anybody," says Lerby.
