Everton Pair Shortlisted For Monthly Award

Everton’s imperious start to the season has been recognised with a double nomination for September’s EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month award.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is named on the eight-strong shortlist 24 hours after the striker received his first call-up to a senior England squad.

Everton’s Colombian forward James Rodriguez is included after a trio of super performances to begin his first season in English football.

Calvert-Lewin has scored five Premier League goals and is the division's joint-top scorer with Jamie Vardy.

The 23-year-old headed the only goal of the game as Everton won their opening fixture at Tottenham Hotspur.

He added his first senior hat-trick in the 5-2 Goodison Park victory over West Bromwich Albion and was on target again when Everton sustained their 100-per-cent winning start away against Crystal Palace last week.

The agile James, who joined from Real Madrid last month, whipped in a terrific strike to open his Premier League account against West Brom. He has supplied one assist and created three “big chances” and is averaging 53 passes per game.

Calvert-Lewin and James have competition for September’s prize from Leicester City duo Vardy and Timothy Castagne, the full-back signed from Atalanta, and Harry Kane of Tottenham.

Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford, Sadio Mane of Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion’s former Chelsea wing-back Tariq Lamptey are also in the running.

Voting for September’s EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month is now open and closes on Monday 5 October.
