Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo says Everton’s apparent hunt for a new centre-half could see them turn to Unai Nunez of Athletic Bilbao.

The Basque club is said to be prepared to allow 23-year-old Nunez out on loan for the season, with West Ham United also mentioned in connection with the defender.

Nunez, who has one Spain cap, joined Bilbao aged 10 and has made 77 senior appearances since a debut in August 2017.

Sportitalia, though, insists Everton are in a two-way fight with Fulham for Torino centre-half Gleison Bremer.

The Brazilian, 23, has been with Torino two years and last season scored five goals in 35 games in all competitions.

A third central defender linked with Everton is Fikayo Tomori, with speculation over a potential season-long loan for the Chelsea player continuing since rumours first surfaced a fortnight ago.

The Evening Standard reckons Everton remain interested in a deal for the 22-year-old with one England cap and are “waiting for a final answer from Chelsea”.

The Athletic reckons Carlo Ancelotti wants to add a right-back to his Everton squad before the transfer window closes on 5 October.

Two players under consideration, according to the website, are Santiago Arias and Diogo Dalot.

Colombian Arias, 28, has been with Atletico Madrid two years following a transfer from PSV Eindhoven, where he was taken by current Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands.

The 21-year-old Dalot, meanwhile, has played 34 games for Manchester United since joining from Porto in his native Portugal in summer 2018.

Brazilian great Rivaldo has been talking about Everton and quotes from the 2002 World Cup winner, who played under Carlo Ancelotti for two seasons at AC Milan, have been picked up by various publications.

Rivaldo had a keen eye on Everton’s Premier League win at Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday, paying particular attention to countryman Allan, making his Blues debut following a transfer from Napoli.

"My compatriot Allan immediately proved his value with a good performance in Everton's win at Spurs, so I must congratulate him for that," said Rivaldo.

"I think he has qualities to perform well for Everton and at the same time keep staking his claim for a place in the Brazilian team for the Copa America [next summer].

“Carlo Ancelotti already had a strong squad, but with the recent signings of Allan and James Rodriguez, they have a good chance of producing a great campaign this season and fighting for European places.

"With Allan and James combining well in the midfield and Richarlison storming at the attack, I'm predicting a good season for Everton."
