Everton Under-23s' scheduled pre-season friendly match against Wigan Athletic Under-23s on Saturday 22 August will not take place after the Latics confirmed they will not be sending a team.

All of the young Blues' friendlies will take place behind-closed-doors and their next game will now be against National League North side Chorley on Tuesday 25 August (7pm) at USM Finch Farm.

League Two Morecambe will play David Unsworth's team at Everton's training facility on Saturday 29 August (3pm).

And the Toffees will conclude their pre-season programme with an away game against Manchester United Under-23s at The Cliff training complex on Saturday 5 September (1pm).

Everton kicked off their friendly fixtures against Southport FC on Saturday, with the young Blues edged out 2-1 in a highly-competitive clash. Read a full report from that game here and reaction from boss Unsworth here.
