What The Papers Say - 3 August

The views on this page are taken from the local and national media and do not necessarily reflect the views of Everton.

The Liverpool Echo suggests the Blues could “reignite” their interest in Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Everton last summer.

The local read reports central midfield is a key area Carlo Ancelotti would like to strengthen and identifies Doucoure as a potential option for the Italian.

The Daily Express speculates Everton may be interested in signing Bournemouth striker Joshua King.

The Norwegian attacker, who came through the ranks at Manchester United, is rumoured to be valued at £15million.

King, whose contract with the Cherries expires next year, scored six goals and provided four assists in 26 Premier League matches in 2019/20.

Back to the Echo, and the paper carries quotes from Everton manager Ancelotti, who has explained his belief Jean-Philippe Gbamin can return from injury and even stronger person and footballer.

The Ivorian is currently undergoing a rehabilitation programme after sustaining an Achilles problem.

“For him, it is important to take time to recover well and comfortably,” said Ancelotti, in an interview originally given to evertonfc.com.

“I hope for him this moment can help him be stronger and have even more character and personality.

“This is what happened to me – I was out for two years with injury and I came back with more strength, more mental strength.”

And the Echo also shares the news that Everton forward Richarlison has been recognised for his altruistic activities by being named the Club’s 2019/20 PFA Community Champion.

Richarlison enthusiastically took part in work for Everton in the Community and, in his Brazilian homeland, provided aid for people affected by severe flooding and arranged for food parcels to be delivered following the coronavirus outbreak.

“I am very proud to receive this recognition,” Richarlison said.

“From the beginning of my career, I set out to lend my voice to causes that are really important to me and to my community.”
