Ancelotti On Why Blues Will Be Refreshed And Ready For 2020/21

Carlo Ancelotti is confident his Everton squad will approach their pre-season training programme refreshed after a short break and ready to attack the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

The Italian explained his players will “not have a long holiday” given the quick turnaround between seasons. It was announced last week the new Premier League term will get under way on the weekend of 12 September.

The former AC Milan and Real Madrid boss was appointed Everton manager in December and oversaw a significant upturn in results.

The Toffees accumulated 30 points from his 20 games in charge - an average of 1.5 per game. Over the course of the season, that rate would have seen Everton finish four places higher than the Blues’ final position of 12th.

Ancelotti has demanded his players head into pre-season training with renewed energy and ambition – and also revealed why his Crosby home provides a perfect setting for him to recharge ahead of the team's return to USM Finch Farm.

“I think that it will not be a long holiday [for the players], it can be two or three weeks,” said Ancelotti.

“It will be important for them to have a break and spend time with their families.

“We don’t have a long time to prepare for the new season but I think when the season starts we will be ready.

“For me, honestly, I am in a place [Crosby] where people usually go on holiday!

“The beach is fantastic and so maybe I will decide to stay in Crosby for a holiday!”

ANCELOTTI ON BAINES' 'FANTASTIC CAREER' AND EVERTON'S 2020/21 AMBITIONS

Manager says left-back 'was one of the best in Europe'

While Everton concluded the Premier League season with a defeat against Bournemouth on Sunday, striker Moise Kean’s impressive goalscoring performance provided cause for optimism.

As well as notching his second Everton goal, the 20-year-old fired in four shots and made three key passes – totals unsurpassed by any other player during the game.

Kean was still a teenager when he joined Everton from Serie A giants Juventus last summer.

Everton boss Ancelotti underlined the dual challenges Kean faced in acclimatising to life away from his home country and performing in a new league.

He is convinced the talented attacker will benefit from the experience of his first year in England and backed him to improve next season.

“Of course, he is a player we need to give support to, because he is young,” Ancelotti added.

“He came here from Italy, so it was a new adaptation for him, a new country.

“Also, he was alone during the lockdown and so it was not an easy season for him.

“But this season can give him more experience and more knowledge. He will be better and play more next season.”
