Everton midfielder Nathangelo Markelo has joined Dutch top-flight club FC Twente on a season-long loan for the 2020/21 campaign.
Having signed for the Blues from FC Volendam in 2017, Netherlands youth international Markelo established himself as an important player for David Unsworth’s Everton Under-23s team.
The 21-year-old was a near ever-present in the side that won an unprecedented Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup double in 2018/19.
Markelo’s impressive progress was recognised when he penned a new two-year contract with Everton earlier this month.
Twente were 14th in Eredivisie in 2019/20 before the Dutch football season was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
