Sky Sports claim Everton "face a fight" to sign Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes after a second Premier League club reportedly lodged a bid for the Brazilian.

Sky believe the 22-year-old is set to make a decision on his future in the next seven days, with Italian side Napoli another mooted potential destination for the 6ft 3ins centre-back.

The Daily Express believes Everton have joined Arsenal in the hunt for another central defender in Athletic Bilbao's Spain star Unai Nunez, 23.

The Bilbao youth product is reported to have a release clause in his contract allowing him to leave the La Liga outfit for £26.8m.

The Daily Mirror suggests the Premier League is planning to start the 2020/21 season on Saturday 12 September.

League chiefs have suggested three different start dates - 22 August, 29 August and the seemingly favourable September date.

September 5 is not an option because it falls on an international break.

Finally, the Liverpool Echo carries quotes from former Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin after the Frenchman commended the Club for respecting his wish to return to his homeland.

Schneiderlin, 30, completed a move to Ligue 1 side Nice last month after three-and-a-half seasons at Goodison Park.

"I wanted to leave already last year, I was close to doing so, but then the Club held me back, saying that they were really counting on me for this season, but that they would allow me to leave the following summer," Schneiderlin told French publication Nice-Matin.

"I said to the Sporting Director [Marcel Brands] to close all other negotiations. I had chosen Nice and I was not going to go anywhere else. From that moment on, they were very classy."
