WATCH: Everton Women Captains Special

Dan Turner and Lucy Graham spoke to evertontv recently to discuss how they work together in Everton’s unique captaincy structure, the key elements that have underpinned the Blues’ progress under manager Willie Kirk and their confidence the team will continue to make positive strides forward next season.

Dynamic midfielder Graham joined Everton from WSL rivals Bristol City last summer and was swiftly instilled as the team’s new on-field captain, working in tandem with Club skipper Turner.

Manager Kirk said his decision was based on Graham’s strong communication skills on the pitch and Turner’s status as an “immaculate” ambassador for Everton.

In our exclusive interview, Graham and Turner outline how they have formed a strong partnership, built on the foundations of trust and respect.

Everton finished sixth in the Women’s Super League in 2019/20 – four places above the Toffees’ final position the previous season.

Turner explains how the team’s togetherness “is the best I’ve ever known” and has been central to a significant upturn in the Blues’ results.

The pair also look ahead to the 2020/21 season and the prospect of playing alongside January signings Izzy Christiansen and Hayley Raso.

England international midfielder Christiansen and flying Australia winger Raso have not featured for the Toffees since joining earlier this year owing to injuries and the season being curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s so exciting for us,” Graham says. “We’ve got so much to look forward to next season.

“I think we can be proud of how far we’ve come but we’ve got leaps and bounds still to come on. It’s a great Club to be involved in.”
