Stekelenburg Signs Short-Term Everton Extension Before Ajax Move

Maarten Stekelenburg has signed a short-term contract extension with Everton and will remain at the Club until the end of the 2019/20 campaign, before joining Ajax on a permanent deal.

Dutch goalkeeper Stekelenburg will leave Everton on Sunday 26 July following the Blues’ final Premier League game of the season against Bournemouth at Goodison Park.

The 37-year-old stopper joined Everton from Fulham in 2016 and has made 26 first-team appearances for the Toffees.

Stekelenburg has won 58 senior caps for his country and was an ever-present during the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals as the Netherlands finished runners-up in the tournament.

He will rejoin Ajax having spent the first nine years of his professional career with the Eredivisie giants, where he helped them win two league titles and three Dutch Cups.
