Everton’s performance in Sunday’s behind-closed-doors Merseyside derby stalemate earns praise across Monday’s national newspapers.

The Guardian focuses on boss Carlo Ancelotti’s tactical set-up, stating Everton's “organisation, discipline and defiance” showed the benefits of the squad's extended period of time on the training ground with the Italian.

Referencing Tom Davies’ 79th-minute effort which struck the woodwork, the Daily Mail acknowledges “only the thickness of the post denied Everton a victory which would have been hard to begrudge Ancelotti’s side”.

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty, meanwhile, highlights Seamus Coleman’s impressive display, declaring the Everton captain was “simply outstanding”.

The Liverpool Echo carries quotes from Everton manager Ancelotti, who said the result “was fair”.

“Honestly, we were really close to winning, but it was a tough and difficult game,” he added.

“I think that we performed really well overall defensively, we were focused, we sacrificed. At the end we had opportunities to score and we were a little bit unlucky.”

The Echo also reports on a potential transfer outgoing at Everton.

The local read reckons the Blues are “locked in negotiations” with Ligue 1 club Nice over a deal for midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

Back to the Daily Mail and the newspaper claims Everton have “made an enquiry” about Real Valladolid centre-back Mohammed Salisu.

The 21-year-old is reported to have a £10.8million release clause.

Southampton and Manchester United are also rumoured to be interested in bringing the Ghanaian to the Premier League.
