Everton Return To Action With Merseyside Derby Clash

Everton will return to Premier League action with a Merseyside derby encounter on Sunday 21 June, kicking off at 7pm, after the initial round of fixtures following the coronavirus shutdown were confirmed on Friday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will travel to Norwich City three days later on Wednesday 24 June, 6pm.

Leicester City are scheduled to visit Goodison Park on Wednesday 1 July, 6pm.

The three matches will be shown live on television in accordance with the league’s plan to screen all 92 fixtures remaining in 2019/20.

Negotiations over the venue for Everton’s second league meeting with Liverpool this term are ongoing.

Manager Ancelotti’s side last played in the Premier League at Chelsea on 8 March, five days before football was indefinitely suspended following the coronavirus outbreak.

Everton are poised to resume their campaign more than three months later with a game against Liverpool, which will kick-off at 7pm and be shown live on Sky Sports and free-to-air station Pick.

The Blues’ first trip to Norwich’s Carrow Road home since December 2015 will start at 6pm and be screened live on the BBC – more than 28 years after an Everton league fixture was last shown on terrestrial television, a home game against Leeds United in February 1992.

Everton host Leicester for the second time this term at 6pm on 1 July after the sides clashed in the Carabao Cup back in December.

The encounter with Brendan Rodgers’ team will be aired live on Sky Sports.

Everton, who are 12th in the Premier League and have nine games remaining, returned to training a fortnight ago and this week resumed full contact sessions as plans to restart top-flight football gathered pace.

The Premier League released the following statement concerning the opening three rounds of fixtures when football resumes later this month.

The Premier League today confirmed the fixture schedule for the first three match rounds of the resumed 2019/20 season.

The League will restart on Wednesday 17 June if all safety requirements are in place. It was confirmed last week, the remaining 92 matches will be broadcast live in the UK by the Premier League’s existing broadcast partners as, due to COVID-19, all games will take place behind closed doors.

BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT will also provide live radio commentaries for all the remaining matches.

Sky Sports will broadcast live both opening games (which were postponed due to the Carabao Cup Final) on 17 June. Aston Villa v Sheffield United will kick-off at 6pm and Manchester City v Arsenal at 8.15pm, followed by a full match round beginning on Friday 19 June.

BT Sport will show the first-ever Saturday 3pm Premier League match to be broadcast live in the UK with Brighton & Hove Albion taking on Arsenal on 20 June.

The schedule will also see Premier League matches more widely available, with 33 of the remaining fixtures broadcast free-to-air via Sky Pick, the BBC and Amazon Prime Video, enabling more supporters in the UK to enjoy Premier League action from their homes.

BBC will broadcast its first live Premier League fixture when AFC Bournemouth host Crystal Palace on Saturday 20 June at 7.45pm. Amazon Prime Video coverage will start with Crystal Palace v Burnley at 8pm on Monday 29 June. Prime Video confirmed earlier this week that all four of their matches will be made available free of charge with fans not needing a Prime membership to view.

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “We are pleased to provide fans with further updates on the provisional restart of the Premier League season.

“We know it won’t be the same without our loyal supporters in stadiums but, together with our broadcast partners, we are able to ensure fans can watch or listen to each match live from home. It is important that as many people as possible can access our games so we are extremely happy that more than a third of our remaining fixtures will be televised free-to-air here in the UK.

“I am delighted we are able to take another positive step towards the season returning in just under two weeks’ time.”
