Simone Magill is convinced Everton will build on “massive strides” made during the 2019/20 season and establish the Club as a force in the Women’s Super League.

The Blues were in the mix for a top four WSL finish and had advanced to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup before the campaign was ended early due to the coronavirus lockdown.

The season also saw Everton beat Liverpool in front of more than 23,500 supporters at Anfield and move into a new purpose-built stadium at Walton Hall Park.

Skilful forward Magill credits manager Willie Kirk for helping to drive Everton forward during his 18 months at the Club.

The Toffees were fighting relegation when the Scot was appointed in December 2018 but after Magill hit a stunning winner in his maiden game in charge – another Merseyside derby triumph – the Blues have been on a steadily upward curve.

“We’re establishing ourselves in the league,” Magill told evertonfc.com.

“In terms of our form this season, it’s been a big step up from last year.

“Ever since Willie and his team have come in, the direction we’ve been heading is so positive.

“I’m delighted to be a part of it.

“You look at the players we’ve been recruiting, too, and it’s very exciting.

“We’re making massive strides.”

Magill joined Everton as an 18-year-old back in March 2013 has developed into one of the Club’s most important players.

She won the Blues’ Player of the Season award in 2018/19 and signed an extended contract last summer, committing to the Club until June 2022.

Magill has also been a key figure for the Northern Ireland national team and has amassed more than 50 senior caps for her country.

Everton manager Kirk has spoken of Magill’s professionalism and application in glowing terms and the forward – while is still just 25 years old – outlined the responsibilities she feels as one of the Club’s senior players.

“Even though I’m still quite young, I have built up quite a bit of experience,” she explained.

“I’ve been a senior international for 10 years now, which is crazy.

“The way I conduct myself day in, day out, I hope that can set an example - especially for younger players at Everton who are maybe new to the professional game.

“Also, in terms of how Willie works, he trusts the players in his team and when certain decisions need to be made, we’re included in that process.

“I think he really values our opinions as players.”
