She Drew The Gun: Lockdown Sessions Q&A

On Friday 22 May at 8pm, Everton Football Club brings you an evening of live music in support of our Blue Family campaign, which is helping those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

Eleven acts featuring Everton fans have recorded exclusive sessions in isolation and ahead of the big show, we’re profiling them to find out more.

Next up, it’s She Drew The Gun...

Who is in the band and where are you from?…

We could only use the Blue contingent of the band for this session, of course! So we have me (Louisa), Lucy and Jack and we asked Jack Prince (The Coral) to get involved on the bongos. Lucy is from Anfield and the rest of us are from the Wirral, from Birkenhead to Bromborough.

Why are you supporting the Blue Family campaign?

Everton in the Community is a great cause and we’re all lifelong Blues so it was a pleasure to be involved.

What should you have been doing in May 2020?

Today would have been our last day in New York at the end of our first North American Tour. So that is the most painful thing we have missed out on. We had a few festivals booked in as well, so it has been hard seeing things pass on the calendar but these things will come around again.

How has the pandemic and lockdown affected you as a band?

It’s a big contrast to what should have been happening. Obviously, live music has ground to a complete halt, so the main thing is missing the gigs and touring you would have been doing. There is always something to do at home, whether it is writing or recording sessions, so it’s easy to keep busy but we don't really know what the whole music ecosystem will look like on the other side of lockdown, so it’s hard to tell the full effects yet.

Band highlight so far?

Glastonbury. John Peel Stage, 2019.

Favourite all-time Everton player and favourite current player?

I had my first Season Ticket in the Gwladys Street in the 96/97 season and Kancheslskis was unreal, but my favourite was always Big Dunc. Of the current crop, I like André Gomes. He oozes class.

Rate your football ability out of 10…

Almost hit the top bin on Soccer AM and can still do 30 keepy-ups, so I’ll give myself a solid seven!

Best Everton memory?

Probably my Grandad taking me and my brother to our first game. We only drew 3-3 with Chelsea but it was the start of me falling in love with the Club and we won the cup that year.

Favourite city to play a gig… after Liverpool, of course!

London and Manchester are both always up for it.

For those yet to hear your music, who would you say it is for fans of?

The Coral, Portishead, Kate Tempest.

What does the next year hold for you?

A new album and touring. Living the festival life for a summer again would be nice.

What song have you chosen to perform in isolation for the Blue Family Lockdown Sessions?

It felt like the right occasion to cover a song by one of the greatest songwriters of all time who’s also a fellow Blue, so look out for a La’s cover.

Where can we follow you?
