A Brazilian Evertonian who saw a long-awaited trip to Goodison Park thwarted by the coronavirus lockdown says receiving a surprise call from Blues hero Richarlison “is one of the best things that has ever happened to me”.
Everton fan Bruno saved up to travel to Merseyside, using wages from his job as a tour guide at the world-famous Maracana Stadium, to take in two Toffees matches.
The 23-year-old, who hadn’t been able to afford flights from South America to see an Everton game for five years, even made it across to the UK but was forced to stay in quarantine with friends rather than watch his beloved Blues at Goodison.

BRAZILIAN BLUE OVERJOYED BY SURPRISE CALL FROM HERO RICHARLISON
After 33 days spent in lockdown in the UK, Bruno was eventually able to embark on a flight back to Brazil.
Having heard Bruno’s story, Everton and Brazil striker Richarlison was eager to lift his sprits by checking in with the fanatical Toffees fan.
And after Bruno got over the initial shock of receiving a call from the Blues star, the pair discussed how Bruno became an Evertonian, his job at Maracana and how he used to watch Richarlison in action when the striker played for America Miniero.
“When I saw you play, I thought, 'Imagine this kid shining with the Brazilian team shirt, or with my team [Everton’s] shirt',” said Bruno.
“And now you're calling me, I can't believe it!”
Richarlison, meanwhile, promised to send an elated Bruno some signed Everton merchandise and meet up with him at Goodison in the future when it is safe to do so.
“Mate, I'm calling with the greatest joy,” Richarlison said.
“You, in addition to being a Brazilian, are an Everton fan and tried to fulfil the dream of seeing our team playing at the stadium. We will send you an autographed shirt, boots and a kit of Everton products.”
