Davide Ancelotti: Why Chairman Was Right That Everton Is The Best Club

Davide Ancelotti says he needed only one game as Everton assistant manager before agreeing with Chairman Bill Kenwright he had joined the “warmest, kindest and best club in the world”.

Ancelotti met Kenwright on the day dad Carlo was appointed manager, which coincided with Everton drawing with Arsenal in the final game of Duncan Ferguson’s caretaker spell, and was staggered the Club's welcome extended to preparing personalised replica jerseys for twin sons Lucas and Leonardo.

Five days later, Ferguson and Davide were by Carlo Ancelotti’s side as the new boss began his reign with a 1-0 victory over Burnley at Goodison Park.

Davide, who has been further wowed by Everton’s “incredible” Blue Family” campaign, worked productively with his father at European heavyweight quartet Paris-Saint Germain, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Napoli.

And he insists the duo, along with the rest of Carlo Ancelotti’s backroom staff, are on a mission to plant their own indelible marks in Everton history.

“The first time we came to Goodison, to watch the game against Arsenal, Bill Kenwright told me, ‘You will see this is the warmest, kindest and best club in the world’,” Davide Ancelotti told evertontv.

“We were playing next against Burnley and he told me, ‘On Thursday [Boxing Day, when Everton hosted Burnley], you will tell me I am right’.

PICKFORD ON TREASURED MEMORIES, DISTRIBUTION DRILLS AND LOOKALIKES

Goalkeeper takes on name game feature.

“I didn’t have the chance to tell him – but I wanted to tell him he was right.

“It was really impressive the welcome they [Evertonians] gave us.

“The Club, when you arrive, one of the first things they tell you is, it is the People’s Club.

“And you can feel that being part of it every day when you are working in Finch Farm.

“The manager will do everything in his power to be even a small part of this club.

“For us [support staff], we are trying to cooperate and support him, it [our ambition] is the same.

“Our dream is to do it with him.”

Carlo Ancelotti was at the helm for 11 Premier League games – winning five and drawing three – before the season was halted in March following the coronavirus outbreak.

In the immediate wake of the game’s suspension Everton and its official charity Everton in the Community introduced Blue Family.

EVERTON'S DAVIES CALLS DUO TO DISCUSS MENTAL HEALTH DURING LOCKDOWN

Midfielder checks in with pair and talks about power of Everton in the Community.

The campaign, designed to maintain contact with fans and support and assist some of the most vulnerable, socially isolated and at-risk members of the community, has featured a number of high-profile Everton figures.

Manager Ancelotti, Chairman Kenwright and the Club’s CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale, along with a number of first-team performers, have personally contacted supporters.

The Club’s reaction to the pandemic, insists Davide Ancelotti, has been uplifting during a difficult period – when he has drawn personal solace from a rare chance to spend time with his young family at their new home in Formby, including his two sons.

He said: “This [Blue Family] is the positive in this situation… the kindness of the people was incredible.

“But what the Club did is not new.

“It is not a long time I worked for Everton but I understand for the Club it is not something special.

“It is something they do every time [people need help].

“In this situation it is more in the news but in the Club it is something normal to help the community.

“The Club was prepared to help its people.

“I never have this amount of time to be with them [his children], so this is a positive thing.

“I like to cook… it is a family thing, my father also likes to cook a lot.

MINA REVEALS LOCKDOWN REGIME AND WHAT HE LOVES ABOUT ANCELOTTI

Defender speaks exclusively to evertontv.

“I like to watch movies and series on Netflix.

“But I don’t have a lot of time to do it. When my kids are sleeping, I go to sleep because I am really tired.

“It is the first time I am 24 hours with them and I can understand now why my girlfriend is so tired when I come home from training.”

Despite being physically removed from USM Finch Farm since Everton’s training headquarters was closed on 13 March, Davide Ancelotti has continued shouldering a significant workload.

He is maintaining contact with players and ensuring everything is in place to hit the ground running when a return to training is given the green light.

“We look forward to being back and we are ready when the Government says it will be safe,” added Ancelotti.

“We are lucky because there are workers in a really difficult situation.

“We just need to wait and do our job when it is required.”
