What The Papers Say – 6 April

Monday’s Daily Star says Carlo Ancelotti is “preparing to launch a double transfer raid on former club Napoli”.

Midfielder Allan and Mexico international winger Hirving Lozano are the players said to be in Ancelotti’s sights.

Allan, 29, has been capped nine times by Brazil and is in his fifth season with Napoli after originally moving to Italy when he joined fellow Serie A team Udinese in 2012.

Former PSV Eindhoven forward Lozano, meanwhile, was signed by Everton manager Ancelotti at the Stadio San Paolo last summer.

The 24-year-old achieved global prominence with a string of accomplished displays for his country at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

AS in Spain says Everton will pursue a move for Atletico Madrid right-back Santiago Arias this summer.

Another ex-PSV player, Arias was taken to Eindhoven from Sporting Lisbon during Marcel Brands’ time with the Dutch club in 2013.

And AS reckons 28-year-old Arias, who joined Atletico in 2018, might reunite with Everton Director of Football Brands at Goodison Park.

The paper reckons Arias could form part of a three-strong Colombian enclave on Merseyside, claiming Everton will also target Real Madrid forward James Rodriguez to join international colleague Yerry Mina at the Club.

Attacker Jonathan Ikone is another player touted for a move to Everton.

The 21-year-old plays for Lille and has been capped four times by France following a goalscoring senior international debut in September last year.

French publication Le Foot credits Everton with an interest in Ikone and cites Manchester United as potential rivals for the player’s signature.

The Daily Mirror, meanwhile, claims Premier League football could return in June.

There is a “tentative agreement” to play matches “in strictly-controlled conditions behind closed doors”, says the paper.

Premier League action was suspended last month following the outbreak of coronavirus.

Also in the Mirror, it is suggested Everton are “keeping tabs” on mooted Arsenal target Jesse Lingard.

Manchester United forward Lingard also has admirers at Roma and Atletico Madrid, according to the report.
