As part of the Club’s Blue Family initiative, Seamus Coleman made a surprise phone call to lifelong Evertonian, EitC participant and army veteran Dave Howells to offer the Toffees’ support during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Blue Family outreach campaign aims to maintain contact with fans and provide support and assistance to the most vulnerable, socially isolated and ‘at risk’ members of society across Liverpool and beyond over this period.

Dave, who served in the forces for 10 years, is a participant in Everton in the Community’s ‘Everton Veterans’ Hub’ programme. He has been attending regular EitC sessions for the past year after his medical discharge from the military left him feeling lonely and isolated.

He has spoken of how the Everton Veterans' Hub has provided camaraderie with his fellow participants.

Everton captain Coleman picked up the phone to Dave to emphasise the Club would support him in any way possible during this challenging time. The pair also enjoyed a chat about all things Everton, including the Blues past and present.

The Club has provided a cash injection of £50,000 to launch Blue Family and a fundraising page will offer fans the chance to support the initiative.

As part of the campaign, the Everton Fan Centre will be calling thousands of Season Ticket Members and EitC participants to maintain contact and provide a friendly voice to talk to, prioritising the elderly and isolated.

EitC will also distribute essential food parcels, including breakfast packs for young children, and provide mental health support and advice to those in need.
