WATCH: Davide Ancelotti On Why Everton Can Match The Best

Assistant manager Davide Ancelotti says Everton have created an infrastructure to compete at the top end of European football.

The 30-year-old joined Everton as a prominent figure on dad and manager Carlo Ancelotti’s staff back in December.

Talking exclusively to evertontv in his first interview since coming to Goodison Park, Davide Ancelotti conceded the identity of his father brings heightened scrutiny on his own work – but being the son of Carlo Ancelotti is “the best thing in the world”.

Davide Ancelotti was appointed to his dad’s backroom teams at both Paris-Saint German and Real Madrid.

He stepped up to the assistant post he is filling with Everton at Bayern Munich and held the same position with Napoli prior to coming to England.

Davide Ancelotti, then, has piled up winners medals on an unparalleled scale for a coach at the outset of his career.

And he pointed to his surroundings at the Club’s USM Finch Farm training headquarters to explain why Everton boast the long-term potential to match the feats of some of his illustrious former employers.

“I had the opportunity to work for big clubs and Everton has everything to be at the same level,” said Ancelotti.

“These facilities are amazing. They are some of the best facilities in Europe.

“What impressed me from my first day at Everton is the sense of belonging here.

“Everyone loves this club: the fans and people who work here. It is something different.”

Davide Ancelotti opted against pursuing a professional playing career – “My mind was not too slow but my legs were slow” – to feed his passion for the sport through coaching.

After completing a sports science degree, he worked as a fitness coach in PSG’s academy and then with the collection of Galacaticos populating Real Madrid’s 2013/14 Champions League winning squad.

“Yes [going to Real was daunting, initially], because at the beginning it is impressive to work with this kind of player,” said Ancelotti, who coached the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale, as Real claimed a European and domestic cup double six years ago.

“But it is my job, so I have to be professional, to use my knowledge as best as I can and make the players believe in what I say.

“Of course, there is this kind of pressure I have on my shoulders [being Carlo Ancelotti’s son].

“But it is also a motivation for me to show my abilities and knowledge as a coach.

"It is a good thing for me, it makes me work harder every day.

“I used to have this pressure but I learned how to live with it and make it something good for me and my job.”

Davide Ancelotti joined his dad to win Germany’s Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in 2016/17 – continuing a footballing education which began with time spent in dressing rooms at Carlo Ancelotti’s magnificent two-times European champion AC Milan team, sandwiched between spells observing his father working at Juventus and Chelsea.

“I must say, I have been lucky to know such [talented] players from a young age – my dad always worked with really good players, so I know how the biggest players in the world must behave,” said Ancelotti.

“I saw it. It has been a great experience for me.

“I want to learn from what I lived in the past, what I am living now and what I am going to live in this experience.”
