Everton Women Hit Five At Bristol To Set Up Chelsea Quarter-Final

Everton cruised into the last eight of the Women’s FA Cup in convincing style as a double from skipper Lucy Graham – plus strikes from Esme Morgan, Inessa Kaagman and Hannah Cain – secured a comfortable 5-0 win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Everton will host WSL high-fliers Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the competition, with the tie set to be played on Sunday 15 March.

Scottish international Graham returned to haunt her former club as she netted a first-half brace to put Willie Kirk’s side on the road to victory, Morgan’s header sandwiched in between to put the Blues 3-0 ahead at the interval.

Kaagman’s goal early in the second half, and a spectacular volley by Cain, ensured Everton will have a home tie against Chelsea in the quarter-finals.

The Blues suffered a blow in the opening minutes when defender Gabby George was stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious injury and replaced by Kika Van Es.

But they were soon to take the game by the scruff of the neck when Graham sidefooted home Danielle Turner’s cross from the left in the ninth minute to put them ahead.

The visitors continued to threaten and forced a series of corners in quick succession with just over 15 minutes on the clock.

And the third of them paid dividends as Morgan found space to nod home Kaagman’s flag-kick delivery to double the lead.

Bristol were finding it hard to make an impression, but from a rare attack striker Ebony Salmon fired wide from 12 yards after bursting into the box.

Moments later at the other end, Graham burst forward again looking for her second goal of the game, but pulled a right-foot shot wide.

She was not to be denied her double for long, however.

Shortly after Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah had sent an overhead kick over the bar from another corner, Graham produced a pinpoint header to complete her brace after Turner again supplied the ball into the danger area.

Everton began the second period in the same manner they had dominated the first and it took only eight minutes for them to score their fourth goal.

Though Chloe Kelly’s free kick into the box was initially cleared, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah showed great strength to regain possession and feed Kaagman, who made no mistake in slotting the ball past Bristol keeper Sophie Baggaley.

And Boye-Hlorkah turned provider again as she set up Hannah Cain, who swivelled to volley home a spectacular fifth goal for the Blues just before the hour mark.

Though there were to be no further goals, the Blues saw the rest of the game out comfortably to take another step along the road towards Wembley.

Everton Women’s first match in their new home at Walton Hall Park will be against Manchester United on Sunday 23 February (12.30pm kick-off).

Stadium capacity for the game will be reduced and capped at 1,500 for the visit of Casey Stoney’s side, while the Blues complete work to increase capacity for future fixtures.

Supporters must purchase tickets ahead of the first fixture at the Club’s new home with no ticket sales taking place at the ground on the day.
