What The Papers Say – 17 February

Monday's Daily Mail is one of a number of publications featuring news of Andre Gomes successfully navigating a 60-minute practice match at Everton's USM Finch Farm training base on Sunday.

Everton midfielder Gomes sustained a serious ankle injury back in November but, after completing the latest phase of his rehabilitation, the Portuguese will train with Carlo Ancelotti's first-team ahead of Sunday's trip to Arsenal, confirms the Mail.

The same paper suggests Everton will "embark on a search for a blue-chip shirt sponsor" after the Club announced on Sunday its current partnership agreement with SportPesa will finish at the conclusion of the 2019/20 campaign.

Corriere del Mezzogiorno, the regional paper in Italian city Naples, reckons Everton have bid £17m for Brazil international Allan.

The Napoli midfielder, in his fifth season at the San Paolo Stadium, is reportedly also a target for French champions Paris-Saint Germain.

Allan's clubmate Hirving Lozano is touted for a potential move to Everton by Corriere dello Sport.

Everton manager Ancelotti took Mexico international Lozano to former club Napoli in summer 2019 and the Italian paper also points to Blues Director of Football Marcel Brands' relationship with the winger after the pair were together at PSV Eindhoven.

Another player linked to Goodison Park is Maresh Kumbulla, Hellas Verona's Albanian centre-half, who is said to have a host of illustrious suitors, including Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and Napoli.

The Liverpool Echo, meanwhile, reports on Lewis Gibson's stellar start to his loan at Fleetwood Town.

Everton defender Gibson joined League One Fleetwood for the remainder of the campaign in January and has been on the winning side in all four of his games for the promotion chasers.

Finally, ex-Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall has told the Echo his old club has a winning combination in the dugout in the form of Ancelotti and assistant Duncan Ferguson.

"We've now got a proven winner as a manager and... someone who can potentially be the next Everton manager underneath him," said Southall.
