Volunteer Team Offers Support To Foodbank

Everton in the Community’s neighbourhood and volunteering departments have teamed up to support North Liverpool Foodbank after the charity received an overwhelming response to donation appeals over the Christmas period.

Located in Vauxhall, it is expected that more than 14,000 people across Merseyside will access the foodbank in 2020 and, thanks to the generosity of the community, the facility was aided with a higher than usual number of donations during December.

As such, the donations now need to be organised into food categories, which volunteers and staff from Everton in the Community, including our neighbourhood team, are assisting with on a fortnightly basis.

“We are privileged to have such caring staff and volunteers here at Everton in the Community, who work as a collective to aid members of local communities who need our help," said Everton in the Community's Volunteer Manager, Adam Howard.

"We are more than happy to play just a small part in providing what is a valuable service for some."

In total, 5000kg of food items have been donated to Blue Mile residents (people located within a mile of Goodison Park), with all beneficiaries deemed as crisis cases.

Everton in the Community's neighbourhood team works to identify these cases and help people avoid the need for foodbank parcels in future through the provision of money management and housing support.

Despite this, the foodbank is still relying on donations and is currently in particular need of cold meats, rice pudding, jam and mash (single packets).

All donations can be dropped off at The People's Hub, The Blue Base and Everton Free School, or at the Fan Zone on matchdays.
