WATCH: The Story Behind USM's Goodison Big Screen Takeover

Watch the moment Year 4 pupils from Linacre Primary School saw their artwork displayed to 40,000 people at Goodison Park.

The youngsters were invited by Club partner USM to draw their favourite Everton players as part of a project to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health among young people.

The drawings were then used to replace the usual graphics on Goodison Park's big screens for the Club's Premier League clash with Newcastle United on 21 January, and also used on the Club's social media channels and in the matchday programme.

The initiative was part of USM's support for Tackling the Blues, an Everton in the Community programme – ran in partnership with Edge Hill University - which aims to teach youngsters strategies for good mental and physical health, promote emotional literacy and improve self-esteem and confidence.

Drawing portraits is just one of the ways that participants are encouraged to explore emotions, behaviours and reactions and gain an understanding of the things we can all do to support each other.

WATCH: THE STORY BEHIND USM'S BIG SCREEN TAKEOVER

Children's artwork displayed to 40,000 at Goodison Park as part of mental health campaign.

Tackling the Blues has engaged with more than 850 young people aged six to 16-years-old in the last three years, and Linacre Primary is one of a number of Merseyside schools involved.

Professor Andy Smith, from Edge Hill University, said: “We are delighted that the benefits of the activities which we have designed with young people who engage in the Tackling the Blues programme are being recognised in this way.

"Helping young people to understand the importance of their mental health, how and where to seek help, and to provide activities which impact their lives positively is an important part of our longstanding partnership with Everton in the Community.

“We are especially grateful to the players, USM, and everyone at the Football Club, for their continued support of Tackling the Blues and our wider research on using sport for mental health promotion.”

The drawings were created by the pupils during an exclusive visit to Everton's USM Finch Farm training ground, with first-team stars Seamus Coleman, Fabian Delph, Jonas Lössl and Theo Walcott dropping by to join in the fun and answer questions on topics including acceptance, self-esteem, diversity and respect.
