Moise Kean says his first Everton goal will provide an additional shot of motivation in the striker’s bid to inject impetus into his Goodison Park career.

Italian Kean was picked for a second straight Premier League game for the first time when Everton faced Newcastle United on Tuesday and marked the occasion with a blast under goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The identity of Everton’s scorer brought even greater intensity to the typical explosion of joy inside Goodison following a Blues goal.

Kean had already drawn appreciative roars from Evertonians for his chasing and tackling. A surging run to halfway crudely interrupted by Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff was similarly well received and home supporters collectively held their breath when Kean advanced for a strike kept out by Dubravka when the scores were locked at 0-0.

Kean was more successful after latching onto Bernard’s floated pass on the half hour and adjusting his body to swipe the ball right footed beyond Dubravka.

“It feels good, it is a big motivation to do more work and help the team… I hope [it is the first of many goals],” Kean told evertontv.

“There was a big support for me. The fans trust in me and had big patience with me.

“I showed to the coach in training I am ready.

“And if he chooses to put me on the pitch, I do my best.

“I am very happy [with my overall performance].

“It is good motivation to start to do very well, to play very well for the team.”

Kean’s night and an Everton performance manager Carlo Ancelotti considered the best since he took charge were overshadowed by the concession of two stoppage-time goals which allowed Newcastle to rescue a draw.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin doubled Everton’s advantage when he buried a left-foot effort nine minutes after half-time for the 22-year-old’s 10th Premier League goal of the campaign.

Calvert-Lewin has netted seven times in his past nine top-flight appearances and was the width of a post from adding another when he took aim from 18 yards with 15 minutes remaining.

Everton carved out a succession of openings and Dubravka repelled Bernard and Mason Holgate as the Blues sought to put the contest to bed.

But Newcastle substitute Florian Lejeune acrobatically scored in the fourth minute of time added on.

And 102 seconds later the Frenchman completed his side’s comeback, rifling in following a penalty-box scramble.

Kean, however, insisted it was imperative Everton quickly usher out any negativity surrounding that late setback and focus on a display which for 93 minutes featured plenty of the enterprising football Ancelotti had demanded.

For the teenager’s part, he struck all three of his shots on target and recorded a passing-accuracy rate of 100 per cent.

Kean won both his aerial duels, earned three free-kicks and made one tackle and one clearance.

He left the field to a spine-tingling ovation when replaced by Seamus Coleman after 71 minutes in which Kean staked his claim to start Everton’s next game, at Watford on 1 February.

“We will use these days [before facing Watford] to recover, to think about what we did that was good and how we can improve and do well in the next match,” added Kean.

“We played well against Newcastle and were unlucky in the last minute.

“But now we will work and try to do more.

“Me and Dom play very well together, it is the same with everyone, we all try to do our best for the team.

“It is good for me and for the team that we play two strikers.

“But we need to keep going to achieve more good results.”
